Wood vs. acrylic plaques
Two of the most popular award plaque materials, compared side by side.
| Wood plaques | Acrylic plaques | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Warm, traditional, real wood grain | Clean, modern, clear or frosted |
| Logo | Engraved into the wood or on a metal plate | Engraved (frosted) or printed in full color |
| Durability | Very durable; dust occasionally | Durable; clean with a soft cloth to avoid scratches |
| Best for | Retirements, years of service, classic awards | Tech offices, desk awards, full-color brands |
| Mounting | Wall plaque with a hanger fitted | Wall-mounted on stand-offs or free-standing on a desk |
| What drives the price | Board size, wood type, plate vs. direct engraving | Thickness, size, engraved vs. printed |
When wood is the better choice
Wood plaques read as a classic award. If the plaque is for years of service, a retirement or an award program that has run for decades, wood matches what people expect, and an engraved brass-tone plate on a dark board is the most recognizable award look there is.
When acrylic is the better choice
Acrylic suits modern offices and brands that live in full color. Because acrylic can be printed, a multi-color logo reproduces exactly, which engraving cannot do. Free-standing acrylic plaques also work on a desk where there is no wall space.
Verdict
If you are unsure, start with the setting: traditional offices, schools and clubs usually choose wood; tech companies, agencies and full-color brands usually choose acrylic. We can mock up your plaque in both materials for free so you can compare before you order.
