Award Plaque Wording: What to Engrave
The four lines every plaque needs
The wording is the part people read every time they pass the wall. Almost every good award plaque carries the same four things: the recipient’s name, the award title, the organization and the date. Start there and add only what earns its space.
Lead with the name
The recipient’s name should be the largest line on the plaque. It is the reason the plaque exists, and it is what they will point to when someone visits their office.
One line of thanks is enough
A short phrase — ‘In recognition of outstanding service’ or ‘With gratitude for ten years of leadership’ — adds warmth without crowding the layout. Long quotes are better on a photo plaque or a certificate inside the box.
Proof every name twice
Misspelled names are the most common plaque mistake, and engraving is permanent. Send names exactly as the recipients spell them, and check the full list on your mockup before you approve it.
